ICT training provider New Horizons Nigeria has launched a new technology hub in Akute, Ogun State, as part of efforts to expand access to digital skills training across Nigeria’s fast-growing suburban communities.

The facility is expected to serve residents across Akute, Alagbado, Ajuwon, Matogun, Lambe, Ojodu-Berger, Isheri, Giwa, Iju-Ishaga, Ishasi and Oke-Aro, reducing the need for long-distance travel to access globally recognised ICT education.

The expansion aligns with the organisation’s broader strategy to deepen digital education and bridge skills gaps across the country.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Tim Akano said the move reflects the increasing importance of technology skills across industries.

“In today’s digital economy, virtually every job requires some level of IT competence, regardless of one’s field,” he said.

“Technology now underpins productivity and competitiveness across industries, from finance and healthcare to agriculture and public administration.”

The centre offers training in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, web development, full-stack software engineering, and graphic design, alongside globally recognised CompTIA certifications.

New Horizons, which operates in over 90 countries, currently delivers ICT training to more than 30 universities and nearly 200 secondary schools in Nigeria, training over 100,000 students annually.

Akano noted that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for career advancement and economic mobility, urging young Nigerians to acquire relevant certifications locally rather than incurring higher costs abroad.
