Global ride-hailing platform inDrive has expanded its investment in driver welfare in Nigeria, committing over N1.2bn in rewards and healthcare support through a strategic partnership with healthtech company Heala.

The initiative is part of the company’s Platinum Driver Programme and introduces integrated telemedicine services, enabling drivers to access healthcare directly through the inDrive app.

The programme, launched in 2025, recognises high-performing drivers who account for more than 70 per cent of service quality on the platform. Since inception, over 3,000 drivers have benefited, with total rewards exceeding N1.2bn.

The new partnership with Heala extends the programme by addressing a critical gap in healthcare access among ride-hailing drivers, many of whom face long working hours and limited flexibility to visit medical facilities.

Through Heala’s digital infrastructure, eligible drivers can subscribe to healthcare plans starting from N1,300 per month. The service allows users to consult licensed doctors via video, voice, or chat, receive prescriptions, and access medications from nearby pharmacies without disrupting their work schedules.

The plans also include diagnostic services, specialist referrals, and, under annual subscriptions, hospital visits when necessary. Coverage can be extended to drivers’ spouses and children, offering broader family healthcare support.

Country Representative for inDrive Nigeria, Oladimeji Timothy, said the initiative reflects the company’s long-term commitment to driver wellbeing.

“Driver welfare remains a core pillar of our operations. The Platinum Driver Programme was created to recognise and reward drivers who consistently provide outstanding service on the platform. Expanding the programme through our partnership with Heala allows us to go even further by supporting the health and wellbeing of these drivers and their families,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of Heala, Anderson Oriahi, highlighted the role of technology in improving healthcare accessibility for underserved workers.

“Our partnership with inDrive demonstrates how technology can make healthcare more accessible for people with demanding schedules. Drivers play an essential role in keeping cities moving, and through this collaboration we are ensuring they can access quality healthcare quickly and conveniently, wherever they are,” he stated.

The initiative reflects a broader shift among mobility platforms toward integrating social impact and welfare programmes into their operational models, particularly in emerging markets where access to healthcare remains uneven.
