Technology brand leverages MTN’s digital retail platform to deepen market reach and strengthen Nigeria’s connected lifestyle ecosystem

Premium technology and lifestyle brand Digifon has entered into a strategic partnership with MTN Nigeria to make its portfolio of smart accessories available through the telecommunications company’s e-shop platform, in a move aimed at improving access to quality consumer technology products and advancing digital inclusion in Nigeria.

The partnership was officially unveiled during a product activation at MTN Plaza, Ikoyi, Lagos, where Digifon showcased its latest range of wearable audio devices and portable power solutions before an audience comprising stakeholders from the media, entertainment and business communities.

The collaboration positions the MTN e-shop as the primary digital sales channel for Digifon’s expanding ecosystem of technology accessories, while laying the foundation for wider retail distribution through MTN’s physical stores across the country.

Speaking at the launch, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of WTG IT Solutions Limited, Mr. Dapo Okotore, described the partnership as a strategic response to the growing demand for reliable technology hardware capable of supporting Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.

According to him, digital inclusion extends beyond network connectivity and requires consumers to have access to dependable, high-quality devices that enhance productivity and everyday digital experiences. “True digital inclusion requires more than just a great network; it requires reliable, world-class hardware that can keep up with the pace of the consumer,” Okotore said. “By launching on the MTN e-shop, we are streamlining access and making it incredibly simple for users to integrate premium power and advanced audio directly into their daily mobile experience. Today’s incredible energy at MTN Plaza is proof that when you design high-performance tech tailored to local realities, the adoption is instant.”

The event featured demonstrations of Digifon’s latest technology products, including the Stonebuds and Oyster Earbuds, which the company describes as Open Wearable Stereo devices equipped with proprietary “Afrobeats Tuned” audio technology.

Unlike conventional earbuds, the devices are designed to sit outside the ear canal, enabling users to enjoy music while remaining aware of their surroundings—a feature increasingly valued by consumers seeking enhanced comfort and safety during daily activities.

Digifon also introduced its Gorilla Mini Vault portfolio of high-capacity power banks, comprising the Mini Vault X with a 10,000mAh battery and 22.5W fast charging capability; the Mini Vault XE featuring a 20,000mAh battery with 22.5W charging output; and the flagship Mini Vault XE Pro, which combines a 20,000mAh battery with 65W fast charging technology capable of powering laptops and multiple connected devices.

One of the highlights of the activation was a live demonstration showing the Mini Vault XE Pro charging a laptop, illustrating the product’s ability to support professionals and consumers whose work increasingly depends on uninterrupted mobile power.

Commenting on the partnership, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mrs. Onyinye Emeka, said the collaboration aligns with the company’s broader ambition of delivering a complete digital lifestyle experience to customers. “We are delighted to welcome Digifon to the MTN e-shop family,” she said. “At MTN, our goal is to consistently deliver a seamless digital lifestyle to our customers, and that requires a perfect marriage between robust connectivity and top-tier hardware.”

She added that customer response during the launch demonstrated the growing demand for premium technology accessories within the Nigerian market. “Seeing the sheer excitement and engagement from our own staff today across all floors confirms that Digifon is a premium tech and lifestyle brand that understands modern needs. This e-shop integration ensures our customers can access premium, reliable tech accessories with absolute ease.”

Among those who attended the launch were media personality Olisa Adibua, executive coach Lanre Olusola, recording artiste Tome, Industry Nite Chief Executive Officer Matthew Ohio and media personality Destiny Amaka.

Following the launch, Digifon said it plans to expand product availability beyond the MTN e-shop through selected MTN retail outlets nationwide while engaging consumers through ongoing product updates and promotional campaigns across its digital platforms.

BrandiQ Analysis

Why the Digifon-MTN Partnership Signals the Next Phase of Nigeria’s Digital Lifestyle Economy

Beyond the launch of another consumer technology brand, the partnership between Digifon and MTN Nigeria reflects a broader transformation taking place within Nigeria’s telecommunications industry. For many years, telecom operators competed primarily on network coverage, voice services and data pricing. That competitive landscape is changing rapidly.

Increasingly, telecom companies are evolving into digital lifestyle platforms that combine connectivity with devices, financial services, entertainment, cloud solutions and e-commerce.

The Digifon partnership is a reflection of this evolution. By integrating premium technology accessories into its digital marketplace, MTN is extending its role beyond connectivity to become a provider of complete digital experiences. This strategy mirrors developments in mature telecommunications markets where operators increasingly generate revenue from device ecosystems, accessories, smart home technologies and digital commerce.

The Hardware Gap in Digital Inclusion

One of the more significant observations made during the launch came from Digifon’s Chief Executive Officer, Dapo Okotore, who argued that digital inclusion requires more than affordable internet access. His observation touches on an often-overlooked aspect of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.

Millions of Nigerians now have access to mobile broadband, yet many continue to rely on low-quality accessories, unreliable charging devices and substandard consumer electronics that limit productivity and compromise digital experiences. Reliable hardware has become an essential component of digital participation. Whether for remote work, digital entrepreneurship, online learning or content creation, consumers increasingly require dependable technology products capable of supporting modern lifestyles.

Retail Partnerships Are Becoming Competitive Advantage

The partnership also illustrates how distribution strategy is becoming as important as product innovation. Rather than relying solely on conventional electronics retailers, Digifon has chosen to leverage MTN’s established customer ecosystem and digital commerce platform.

For emerging technology brands, access to trusted distribution channels often determines market penetration more than product quality alone. For MTN, the arrangement enriches its digital marketplace while strengthening customer engagement through a broader portfolio of technology products.

Implications for Nigeria’s Technology Market

The collaboration points to a growing convergence between telecommunications, consumer electronics and digital retail. As smartphone penetration increases and consumers become more digitally connected, demand for complementary products – including wearable devices, power solutions and smart accessories – is expected to rise significantly.

This creates new opportunities for local technology brands capable of designing products that respond to African consumer realities rather than simply importing generic devices. If effectively executed, partnerships such as the one between Digifon and MTN could help stimulate innovation within Nigeria’s consumer technology sector while strengthening the country’s broader digital economy.

Ultimately, the announcement is about more than earbuds and power banks. It represents another step in the evolution of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem – from one built around connectivity alone to one increasingly centred on integrated digital lifestyles, technology accessibility and consumer experience.
