Women in Advertising, an initiative of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria, has mobilised stakeholders across the integrated marketing communications sector for a health advocacy campaign tagged ‘Walk for Her’ to raise breast cancer awareness in Lagos.

The event, held in commemoration of World Cancer Day, brought together major advertising bodies, including the Experiential Marketers Association of Nigeria, the Media Independents Practitioners Association of Nigeria, the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria, and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria.

According to a statement, participants embarked on a three-hour walk from Ikeja GRA through Opebi, Oregun, and Agidingbi, before concluding at the AAAN Secretariat in Alausa.

The organisers said the walk symbolised the industry’s collective resolve to sustain the fight against breast cancer.

The initiative also provided free breast cancer screening for 200 participants, featured expert-led talks on early detection and care, and hosted interactive sessions on preventive practices.

Chairperson of Women in Advertising, Oluwaseyi Layade, said the campaign was “deeply personal and purpose-driven”, stressing that early detection remains vital to saving lives.

“This walk is not a ceremonial gesture but a strategic movement to empower women, normalise conversations around breast cancer, and drive meaningful action across communities,” she said.

Layade thanked stakeholders for their support and pledged that the group would sustain the effort through partnerships, survivor storytelling, and outreach programmes.

President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria and Chairman of the Heads of Advertising Sectoral Groups, Lanre Adisa, commended the organisers and urged the industry to embrace its role in promoting public health.

“The IMC industry must go beyond brand building to help shape healthier communities,” Adisa said, while calling for a working committee to develop a long-term collaboration and public education framework.

Other industry leaders present included Tolulope Medebem, President of EXMAN; Adeola Odesanya, President of WOHAN and OAAN Executive Council Member; Brenda Nwagwu, Vice President of MIPAN; Onome Odili, Chair of NIMN Ikeja Chapter; Roseline Abaraonye, Assistant Secretary of NIMN Ikeja Chapter; and Eunice Braimah, Vice Chairman of Women in Advertising.

They expressed readiness to collaborate with health organisations and NGOs to sustain the advocacy.

According to the organisers, “Walk for Her” marks the beginning of a sustained movement, with plans for webinars, survivor storytelling, NGO partnerships, and digital awareness campaigns.

As participants marched under the pink banner of hope, the campaign reinforced a clear message: Nigeria’s marketing communications industry is not only building brands, it is building a healthier future.
