Universal McCann Becomes One of Nigeria’s First ISO Certified Advertising Agencies

The agency says its new ISO 9001:2015 status formalises a quality push already visible in its recent revenue growth and faster turnaround times

Universal McCann Media Limited has secured ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification, positioning itself among the first advertising agencies in Nigeria to attain the internationally recognised standard. The certification, dated July 9, 2026, was issued by TNV Group and formally presented to the agency this week at a ceremony held at Universal McCann’s head office in Lagos.

The award affirms that the agency’s quality management processes meet global benchmarks for consistency, efficiency and client satisfaction. It covers the full span of Universal McCann’s operations, from strategic planning through to media execution, and the agency says it reflects an ongoing commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement across every part of its business.

The presentation was attended by representatives from both organisations, including Sunni Otegwu of Panoramicsynergy Enterprises, Universal McCann’s human resources lead Omobola Olajide, finance director Abel Oghumu, and Panoramicsynergy project manager Olajumoke Akingbemila, alongside the agency’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bimpe Fayemi.

Speaking at the event, Fayemi described the certification as a landmark for both her company and the wider marketing communications industry. “Attaining the ISO 9001:2015 certification as the very first advertising agency in Nigeria is a watershed moment for our company and the broader marketing communications industry,” she said. She added that the standard validates the agency’s operational frameworks, strategy development, and media execution against global expectations, and gives clients and brand partners confidence that every project delivered is backed by rigorous quality assurance and a culture of innovation.

Universal McCann, an affiliate of global network IPG Mediabrands, offers media planning, digital marketing, creative solutions, data driven brand strategy, and integrated campaign management for clients across multiple commercial sectors. The agency said the new certification would raise its own operational bar further and set a benchmark for professionalism across Nigeria’s advertising industry.

Read alongside the agency’s recent public track record, this certification looks less like a one-off achievement and more like the formal seal on a process already underway. Universal McCann has reported year over year revenue growth above 40 percent under Fayemi’s leadership, alongside the acquisition of three major brand accounts and an internal restructuring that reportedly cut average project turnaround time by two days. An ISO 9001 certification typically requires documented, auditable process discipline across an organisation, which is precisely the kind of operational tightening that tends to precede, rather than follow, the growth numbers an agency likes to publicise. Seen this way, the certification is best read as evidence for a claim Universal McCann has already been making about itself, not a new claim on its own.

There is also a competitive signal worth noting for anyone tracking Nigeria’s advertising sector. Multinational clients and global procurement teams increasingly use ISO certification as a screening requirement before an agency is even invited to pitch, particularly for regional or pan African mandates that require proof of standardised process across markets. By becoming a first mover on this specific certification, Universal McCann is not simply making a domestic credibility claim aimed at the Lagos market. It is positioning itself to qualify for a category of multinational and cross border business that historically has gone by default to agencies with international backing rather than locally managed operations, even when those operations carry a global network’s name.

Finally, the timing invites a broader industry question. If ISO 9001 certification becomes a genuine differentiator this year, it will not remain one for long. Once a market leader clears a credibility bar publicly, competitors tend to treat it as a new cost of entry rather than a lasting advantage, and Nigeria’s other major agency networks are likely already weighing whether to pursue the same certification. The real test of Universal McCann’s first mover claim will be how much client business it converts in the months immediately following this announcement, before the rest of the market catches up.
