How a strategic education partnership is repositioning crypto brands around trust, literacy, and inclusive digital growth in Nigeria

At a time when digital finance is reshaping how value is created, transferred, and stored, brand relevance is increasingly defined by social impact, not just innovation. Luno’s latest collaboration with AltSchool Africa reflects this shift – positioning education as both a brand strategy and a public good in Africa’s fast-evolving crypto ecosystem.

The global cryptocurrency platform, founded in Africa, has announced a partnership with AltSchool Africa, an accredited online learning provider, to deliver fully funded crypto education to 15,000 Nigerian residents. Branded “Demystifying Crypto for Africans,” the initiative is being described as the largest crypto education programme on the continent, signalling a bold intervention at the intersection of finance, technology, and human capital development.

Beyond scale, the partnership speaks to brand association with purpose. As crypto adoption expands rapidly across Nigeria and the wider continent, Luno is aligning its brand not merely with access to digital assets, but with knowledge, safety, and responsible participation as critical pillars for long-term trust in the sector.

According to Ayotunde Alabi, Chief Executive Officer of Luno Nigeria, the programme responds directly to the realities of Africa’s growing digital finance landscape.

“As crypto adoption accelerates, formal literacy must grow alongside it so individuals can benefit safely and meaningfully,” he said. “Our partnership with AltSchool Africa ensures that Nigerians can participate confidently and sustainably in the digital economy, turning what is often seen as a risk into a real economic opportunity.”

That emphasis on confidence and sustainability reinforces Luno’s positioning as a brand invested in capability-building rather than speculation, using education to convert curiosity into informed engagement.

For AltSchool Africa, the collaboration reinforces its mission of equipping Africans with practical, future-ready skills. Adewale Yusuf, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of AltSchool Africa, described the initiative as a deliberate step toward financial empowerment.

“This programme provides Nigerians with the knowledge and tools to understand cryptocurrency with confidence and apply it in practical, life-changing ways,” he said. “It is more than a course; it is a step toward building a digitally literate and economically empowered population.”

The programme is structured to balance reach with depth. It will be delivered in three cohorts of 5,000 learners each, with cohort one beginning in March 2026, following an application window from January to February. Cohorts two and three are scheduled for July and November, respectively. Participation is open to Nigerian residents aged 18 and above, with enrolment requiring an existing or newly created Luno account.

Designed specifically for beginners, the curriculum spans five core modules and is intended to be completed within three to four weeks. Learners will have up to one year’s access to course materials, including video lessons, quizzes, case studies, and hands-on interaction with wallets, exchanges, stablecoins, and blockchain research tools such as CoinGecko and Etherscan. Successful participants will earn an AltSchool Africa Certificate of Completion, adding formal recognition to their learning journey.

The programme is being led by Web3 expert Abdulsamad Tiamiyu, who explained that its strength lies in combining theory with practical application. The goal, he noted, is to equip participants with the confidence to apply cryptocurrency in everyday financial activities, including saving, remittances, global trading, and entrepreneurship.

With approximately one-third of Nigeria’s population already engaged with digital assets, the initiative seeks to close a widening knowledge gap – one that often leaves users exposed to risk without sufficient understanding. By providing structured education and practical guidance, the Luno–AltSchool Africa partnership aims to promote safer participation while supporting the growth of a responsible and well-informed digital economy.
