MTN Nigeria Communications Plc reported a tax expense of N376.3bn for the nine months ended 30 September 2025, compared with a tax credit of N198.7bn in the same period a year earlier, according to its unaudited financial statements.

The reversal in its tax position, reports The Punch, followed a strong recovery in profitability, with profit before tax rising to N1.13tn from a loss of N713.6bn in the corresponding period of 2024. After taxation, the company posted a profit of N750.2bn, against a loss of N514.9bn a year earlier.

Revenue grew sharply to N3.73tn in the nine-month period, up from N2.37tn last year. Operating profit climbed to N1.44tn, compared with N475.3bn in 2024, reflecting higher service income and improved efficiency across its core operations. Finance income stood at N33.3bn, while finance costs rose to N404.2bn. The group also recorded a foreign-exchange gain of N55.6bn, a significant turnaround from a loss of N904.9bn a year earlier.
