The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa has commended Propcom+ for its continued support in strengthening Nigeria’s National Cocoa Management Committee and promoting sustainable cocoa production in Nigeria.

According to the Global President of COFAAA, Comrade Adeola Adegoke, Propcom+ has been instrumental in helping African cocoa institutions and stakeholders adopt best practices that enhance farmers’ livelihoods and improve competitiveness in the global market.

Adegoke added that to boost the capacity of Nigeria’s NCMC and strengthen its impact in the Nigerian cocoa ecosystem, Propcom+ is supporting the Nigeria National Cocoa NCMC on a study tour to Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s leading cocoa producer.

“The purpose of the tour is to enable the Nigerian delegation to learn from the country’s remarkable success in cocoa governance, sustainability, value-chain development over the last decade, and its approach to EUDR domestication.

“During the study visit, the delegation is engaging with key institutions and players such as the Conseil du Café Cacao, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ivorian Chocolate Company, and the cocoa cooperative farms to gain firsthand insights into best practices in cocoa governance, farmer empowerment, cooperative efficiency, and sustainable practices.

“This collaboration represents a critical milestone in repositioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global cocoa market.

“This study tour will strengthen the operational capacity of NCMC and inspire practical strategies for Nigeria’s cocoa sector to thrive in sustainability,” he averred.

According to him, Ivory Coast contributes the largest share of the world’s cocoa production, accounting for 45 per cent, a significant portion of Africa’s 70 per cent cocoa global output.

Adegoke noted Nigeria’s renewed commitment to adopting successful models from Ivory Coast, saying that the move is expected to help increase Africa’s cocoa production capacity from 70 per cent to 80 per cent within the next five years, a development that could greatly improve the continent’s economic stability and farmers’ livelihoods and put a stop to the subterranean strategy of shifting Africa’s cocoa production. The Nigerian delegation included Comrade Adeola Adegoke, National President of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria and Global President of the Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa; Mr. Ajayi Olutobaba, National Cocoa Desk Officer and Secretary of the National Cocoa Management Committee; Mr. Benedict Etegbe of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council; Mr Omolakin Anthony; and others.
