Paramaribo, Suriname — Brazil’s northern state of Amapá is positioning itself as a strategic gateway to the Caribbean energy market, with officials set to present new investment, logistics and exploration plans at Caribbean Energy Week (CEW) 2026.

The Amapá Economic Development Agency, led by President Wandenberg Pitaluga Filho, will highlight how the રાજ્ય is expanding its infrastructure and capabilities to connect with growing energy activity across the Caribbean basin. His address is expected to focus on cross-border investment opportunities, logistics integration and regional collaboration.

Amapá’s rising profile in the energy sector is closely tied to Brazil’s Equatorial Margin, a deepwater exploration frontier along the country’s northern Atlantic coast. In October 2025, state-owned oil company Petrobras received an environmental operating license from regulator IBAMA to drill an exploratory well in Block FZA-M-059, approximately 175 kilometers offshore. The project is aimed at gathering geological data and represents a key step in opening northern Brazil to frontier exploration.

State authorities are aligning their development strategy with these emerging opportunities. The Amapá government, in collaboration with its economic development agency, has been engaging industry stakeholders and engineering firms to strengthen logistics and port infrastructure. Feasibility studies are underway for offshore support facilities that could service oil and gas operations.

In late 2025, officials held technical consultations with DTA Engenharia Portuária to assess potential offshore port sites between Santana and Calçoene. The initiative is designed to establish dedicated logistics capacity to support anticipated offshore energy activity.

For Caribbean stakeholders, Amapá’s approach underscores how subnational regions can leverage geography and national policy to integrate into regional energy systems. With offshore developments accelerating in neighboring Guyana and Suriname, the state’s planned ports and service hubs could serve as a vital link between Brazil and the Caribbean energy value chain.

Brazil, Latin America’s largest oil producer, brings significant technical expertise and a well-established oilfield services sector. Its industrial base and logistics networks offer potential synergies for offshore operations throughout the Caribbean basin.

At CEW 2026, the Amapá Economic Development Agency is expected to engage investors and policymakers on strengthening trade ties, expanding infrastructure and fostering collaboration between Brazilian firms and operators active in the Guyana–Suriname corridor.

As exploration intensifies along Brazil’s northern coast and investment continues to grow in Guyana and Suriname, regional cooperation is becoming increasingly central to the Caribbean energy landscape. Amapá’s participation at CEW 2026 signals its intent to play a key role in linking production, services and investment across borders, helping to shape the next phase of energy development in the region.
