The Nigerian Film Corporation, has signed a memorandum of understanding with PlotWeaver, an artificial intelligence-powered storytelling platform, to deploy AI-driven tools aimed at transforming the cinema industry.

In a statement, the corporation said the partnership was “strategic, timely, innovative, and will transform the storytelling capabilities of Nigerian filmmakers, marking “a new chapter for the country’s burgeoning film industry.”

The Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Brian Etuk, stated that the collaboration aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to deepen the development of the creative industry through innovation.

He stated that the partnership would enable filmmakers to embrace “innovative storytelling opportunities powered by Artificial Intelligence,” adding that the project would introduce seamless film development processes nationwide.

Etuk noted that the AI-powered storytelling tools will be deployed nationwide across the six geopolitical zones and made accessible to filmmakers, students of creative studies, emerging talents, and film training institutions.

He said, “The partnership project offers incredible and seamless film development processes, through AI-powered innovative storytelling tools to be deployed nationwide.”

The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Nigerian Film Corporation, Dr Ali Nuhu, described the partnership as timely and transformative for the industry. “This partnership marks a pivotal shift towards a future where cultural storytelling meets cutting-edge technology,” Nuhu said.

He added that the initiative went beyond software deployment, stressing the importance of cultural ownership and global relevance. “This is not just about software; it is about sovereignty in storytelling and equipping creatives with the power to tell their stories with accuracy and dignity that resonate beyond Nigeria’s borders,” he said.

The Founder/Chief Executive of PlotWeaver, Oluwole Fagbohun, assured that the project’s delivery timeline was achievable, noting that implementation would span the next three years.

Fagbohun said the project would include securing wider buy-ins, developing domestic and offshore implementation frameworks, and running funding campaigns to support platform deployment, training, and capacity-building.

He explained that PlotWeaver was designed to support filmmakers across the production value chain, including script development, character design, cultural intelligence, and market insight.

“With a rollout plan to be announced soon, the platform is designed to support filmmakers by providing tools that enhance authentic creativity,” he said.

The partnership aims to introduce AI-driven storytelling infrastructure into the heart of Nigeria’s cinema, elevate the country’s global storytelling capacity, attract investment opportunities, and promote intelligent tools that advance local voices while respecting cultural nuances.
