As African films gain increasing global recognition, filmmakers across the continent are turning to advanced imaging technologies to deliver cinematic visuals that resonate with international audiences.

In line with this trend, Canon Central and North Africa is playing a key role in elevating production quality in Nollywood, with its cinema cameras and lenses featured prominently in the production of the highly anticipated music drama EVI.

The film will debut at an exclusive African premiere on March 22, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria, bringing together filmmakers, industry leaders, and media stakeholders ahead of its nationwide cinema release on March 27, 2026.

Driving Cinematic Excellence with Advanced Imaging

The production of EVI leveraged the Canon C400 cinema camera alongside professional-grade lenses to achieve high-definition visuals, vibrant color accuracy, and exceptional clarity.

The technology is particularly designed to capture the richness and authenticity of African skin tones while meeting global cinematic standards—an increasingly important factor as Nollywood expands its international footprint.

The film underscores how modern cinema tools are enabling African creatives to produce content that rivals global productions in both technical quality and storytelling impact.

Industry Perspective

According to Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director at Canon Central and North Africa:

“Canon’s cinema camera technology is helping filmmakers tell the powerful, authentic stories that make African cinema unique. EVI is a shining example of how the right tools allow creatives to capture the emotion, vibrancy, and rich visuals at the heart of African storytelling.”

A Story Rooted in Identity and Resilience

Directed by Uyoyou Adia and produced by Judith Audu, with cinematography by Barnabas Emordi, EVI is a vibrant music drama that blends performance and narrative to explore themes of:

  • identity
  • ambition
  • resilience
  • second chances

The film features a strong ensemble cast, including:

  • Osas Ighodaro
  • Uzor Arukwe
  • Omowunmi Dada
  • Ibrahim Suleiman
  • Femi Branch
  • Ariyike Dimples
  • VJ Adams
  • Waje

Their performances bring emotional depth and authenticity to the story, supported by high-quality visual production.

Nollywood’s Global Momentum

Following its premiere, EVI will be released in cinemas nationwide, marking another milestone in Nollywood’s continued growth and global relevance.

As African cinema gains traction internationally, productions like EVI highlight the critical role of technology in shaping the future of storytelling on the continent.

By combining compelling narratives with advanced filmmaking tools, Nollywood is not only raising production standards but also strengthening its position as a major force in global entertainment.

The Bigger Picture

The collaboration between filmmakers and technology providers like Canon reflects a broader shift within Africa’s creative economy—where innovation, investment, and storytelling are converging to redefine the industry.

As the continent’s film sector evolves, the integration of world-class production tools is expected to further enhance the quality, reach, and commercial potential of African content globally.
