EF Motors Limited, a subsidiary of EF Network Limited, has announced plans to create 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect employment opportunities through its local electric vehicle assembly plant in Imo State.

The company, in partnership with Chinese technical firm Zhejiang Pukao New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd., plans to commence assembling hybrid electric cars by the first quarter of 2026.

The plant, located on a 30-hectare site in Imo, will roll out over 40,000 affordable vehicles annually in its first phase, with production expected to increase to 100,000 cars per year by 2028.

The Chairman of EF Motors, Gideon Egbuchulam, disclosed this during the recent Lagos International Trade Fair at Tafawa Balewa Square. He added that the initiative is designed to provide Nigerians with low-cost, energy-efficient vehicles while creating employment and reducing transportation costs.

“Our Orca and Panda models are designed for Nigerian families and taxi operators. They combine electric and fuel-powered engines, offering a total range of up to 385 kilometres. This technology allows users to save between N10,000 and N20,000 daily in fuel costs,” Egbuchulam said.

Additionally, Chidi Success, Director of Business Development, noted that the Federal Government’s incentives for local electric vehicle manufacturing, including tax waivers, will be passed on to consumers, making the cars more affordable for Nigerians.

EF Motors also plans to establish public charging stations nationwide, supported by both solar and grid electricity, and will provide after-sales service, spare parts and repair services across the country.

Additionally, Sales Manager at BCBL, Shela Lin, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the partnership, noting that BCBL would supply the technology and technical expertise for the project.

This includes vehicle assembly, maintenance and the training of local engineers. She added that the collaboration is aimed at ensuring full technology transfer and supporting Nigeria’s long-term goal of developing a sustainable automotive industry.
