Transafam Power Limited, one of the two power-generation arms of Nigeria’s largest listed conglomerate, Transnational Corporation Plc, has unveiled its first corporate social responsibility initiative for senior citizens in its host community of Okoloma-Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The company announced the programme in a statement on Monday, signalling a strategic push to bolster its social footprint alongside its energy operations.

The initiative, dubbed Elderly Wellness Day, provided medical screenings, wellness education, food, essential items, and long-term health monitoring tools to more than 30 elderly residents, including 24 women and six men, reinforcing Transafam’s commitment to the well-being of its host communities.

The Managing Director/CEO of Transafam Power Limited, Vincent Ozoude, said at the event, “Today marks the beginning of what will become an annual tradition. True progress is measured not only in megawatts but in the lives we touch. Caring for the elders who have built the foundation of this community is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously.”

The programme included interactive health talks by specialist doctors from Avon Medical Practice on healthy ageing, hypertension management, diabetes prevention, and general preventive care. Participants also received vital signs checks, physician consultations, laboratory investigations where needed, and on-the-spot medications.

Each senior citizen was given a digital blood pressure monitor, a three-month supply of multivitamins, and a package containing food items, toiletries, bedding, and other essential household provisions.

Community leaders and beneficiaries praised the initiative for its compassion and organisation, describing it as very impactful to the elderly people in Okoloma-Afam.

The Elderly Wellness Day is part of Transafam Power’s broader healthcare-focused CSR portfolio, which also includes waste management initiatives, medical consultations, and youth employment programmes.

The company pledged to make it an annual flagship event while expanding its sustainable community development programmes in health, education, and economic empowerment.

Transafam Power Limited, acquired by Transcorp Group in November 2020, operates with an installed capacity of 966MW through Afam Power Limited and Afam Three Fast Power Ltd, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s electricity supply and development.
