Golfers are set to compete for a total prize pool of N35m and a BMW X4 at the 64th Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship from Monday, November 17, to Sunday, November 23, 2025, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The organisers confirmed at a Wednesday press conference at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section that the tournament, sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria, will feature a mix of amateur and aspiring professional golfers from across the country.

Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Akinwunmi Akintola, described the tournament as “one of the most enduring and prestigious events in the history of the club,” noting that the bank has been a steadfast partner over the years.

He highlighted the strong relationship between the club and the bank, built on “shared values, integrity, excellence, and service to the community,” citing a past donation of an ambulance as an example of their commitment.

“The support from First Bank ensures that this great event continues to grow in stature and impact,” Akintola said.

Abiona Babarinde, Marketing General Manager at Coscharis Motors, explained why the company is partnering with the championship. He said the collaboration is intended to create unique experiences for their shared clientele, combining the excitement of golf with Coscharis’ portfolio of globally respected automobile brands.

“One brand that stands out and resonates perfectly with the game of golf is BMW,” Babarinde said.

“This platform allows us to excite our common customers. It’s not just about banking with First Bank or driving a car with Coscharis. It’s also about creating fun and memorable experiences.”

He also confirmed that a BMW X4 would be among the prizes on offer this year, adding that all Coscharis brands would be on site during the tournament, offering attendees the chance to test drive vehicles.

Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank, reflected on the tournament’s legacy.

He described the event as more than a golf championship, calling it “a moment of reflection on a tradition that inspires and a game that demands focus, discipline, and sportsmanship.”

Ijabiyi also highlighted First Bank’s commitment to using the tournament to bridge the gap between tradition and opportunity, and to create access for new generations of golfers.

According to the organisers, over 200 golfers with handicaps ranging from zero to nine are expected to participate. The tournament will feature multiple events, including a Caddy’s Competition, the Championship Kitty, a Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity, and professional coaching clinics.

Saturday’s competition will include a cut-off to ensure smooth scheduling, while Sunday’s final round will feature high-net-worth individuals, First Bank clients, and other partners playing alongside professionals.

Prize money totals N35m, with the first position receiving N10m. A charity event on Thursday will see proceeds donated to a chosen home, to be announced on the day.

The week-long championship promises a mix of competitive golf, professional engagement, and leisure activities. Players will have the chance to compete in traditional events, challenge the pros, and experience test drives from Coscharis, ensuring the tournament remains a highlight of Nigeria’s golfing calendar.
