Artificial intelligence dominated discussions at the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters of Nigeria’s 38th Annual National Conference and 2024 AGM in Lagos, where professionals, scholars, and policymakers examined how emerging technologies are reshaping office management and public administration.

In a statement issued at the end of the four-day conference, the institute reaffirmed its commitment to modernising Nigeria’s administrative systems as it inaugurated a new Governing Board and explored strategies for navigating an AI-driven workplace.

The conference, held under the theme ‘Effective Applications of AI Technology in Office Management and Administration’, drew stakeholders, scholars, and professionals from across the country.

A major highlight of the opening day was the inauguration of the newly elected Governing Board, following elections held on 5 June 2025. Mrs Ubege Omonogor was formally installed as President and Chairman of Council, alongside two Vice Presidents: Mr Gwonson Joshua (First Vice President) and Mrs Taiyek Osarugue (Second Vice President). The ceremony was conducted by the founder and pioneer Registrar-General, Samuel Ozomah. The institute also introduced its incoming Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Goodluck Nnorom, a senior academic at Caleb University, Imota.

In her inaugural address, Mrs Omonogor traced the institute’s evolution since 1981 and pledged to uphold its legacy of integrity, excellence, and professionalism. She assured members that the Board would “sustain the tenacity of purpose built by the founding fathers” while exploring new opportunities for relevance in a rapidly changing workplace driven by artificial intelligence.

The technical session, declared open by the Special Guest of Honour, Permanent Secretary for Establishment and Training, Mrs Busola Abidakun, was represented by Mr Babatunde. The keynote lecture, delivered by the Head of Service, Edo State, Dr Anthony Okungbowa, examined ‘Navigating the AI-Driven Regulatory Landscape’, offering insights into the future of public service administration.
