Nigeria have received a timely boost ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau paid a visit to injured Super Eagles defender Ola Aina in London as the fullback continues his rehabilitation.

The Super Eagles confirmed the visit in a post on X on Sunday, stating, “NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau paid a visit to Super Eagles defender Ola Aina in London, wishing him a speedy recovery as he continues his rehabilitation.”

Aina is recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein in September.

He was forced off and later underwent surgery after scans revealed the severity of the tear, ruling him out for several months and halting a strong start to the season with Nottingham Forest.

The right back has now returned to light training on grass as part of an advanced recovery phase. Photos shared on social media in recent days show him resuming pitch-based work at Nottingham Forest, which marks a significant step in his comeback.

Forest have missed his influence on the flanks and have monitored his rehabilitation closely. The club expect him to push toward full recovery between December and early 2026, although his availability for Nigeria will depend on medical clearance.

Aina’s injury disrupted the balance of Forest’s defensive structure and forced both Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche to adjust options across the backline.

His gradual return is regarded as a major positive for Nigeria, who require depth and defensive stability ahead of AFCON 2025.

If his progress continues at the current pace, the former Torino and Fulham defender stands a strong chance of being available for selection for the tournament.

His return would ease pressure on Nigeria’s defensive setup and provide head coach Eric Chelle with greater flexibility at fullback as preparations intensify.
