Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has told the club to sell Nigeria midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the January transfer window, but the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, wants the player to stay, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Sarri, who rejoined Lazio in June for a second stint, has usually laid his unconvincing thoughts to bare about the Nigerian, but his latest actions are linked to the club’s financial struggles.

Dele-Bashiru, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, has only played four Serie A games this season.

Since joining Lazio from Hatayspor for €3.4m on a permanent deal in the summer, he has not been able to replicate his form in Turkey. Last season, he played 20 Serie A games, scoring three goals plus one assist for Lazio. He had scored eight plus three assists for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig two seasons ago.

The 24-year-old has been on the treatment table since the end of September, and while he is reaching full fitness, things might not be the same with the Italian coach again as the January transfer window approaches.

According to Lazio Press, the Nigerian is not central to Sarri’s plans.

However, Dele-Bashiru is not the only player Sarri wants to leave. He also wants to sell Reda Belahyane and Tijjani Noslin to help the club raise money for other signings later on.

Lazio confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder resumed individual training last month, signalling a major step in his recovery from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him since September, but his future remains unclear.
